As we journey through this season of Lent, I am heartened by the stories filling our feeds right now of the church at work in God’s world. As someone who spends a considerable amount of time on social media as part of my professional role, it would be easy to get caught up in the doom and rage the algorithms serve us on these platforms. Instead, I see the light of the world shining in neighborhood meal programs and advocacy on behalf of your neighbors. I see the hands and feet of Christ serving others in prayer shawl ministries, and community gardens. Navigators and guides, each of you, abiding with one another through Lent and beyond.
This month, we’re bringing you a profile of one such program here in Austin, and the gentleman–a champion for civil rights and a true trailblazer, for sure–faithfully answering God’s call through work and welcome with those seeking a new life in this country.
